This is a helpful narrative for anyone thinking of going cruising.I have met Jim and Ellen while anchored in the same harbor.They live the cruising life and Jim tells the story of their life aboard from his very personal perspective.Jim is not insisting that the way he approaches cruising is the only way,rather he lets you ride along in his head-vividly experiencing his story.Don't let any oversights of spelling or grammar worry you-Jim is passing along raw experience and perspective,not creating another slick unrealistic travelogue.I have sailed to the places that Jim writes about.If this helpful little book had been around before I took off sailing,I would have greatly benefited from his hard won experience.Product details

You've got to love the spirit. He and his wife took on sailing with little experience and they did okay. He took on writing a story and he did okay. I like reading these "I'm sailing away" stories and overall I've been happy with them. His definitely feels like an amateur's work, as it jumps around unpredictably and it often feels like he is writing all the wrong bits. It is occasionally marred by some breathtaking errors in grammar (i.e., "finely" is not "finally" or "right" is not "write"), but overall the prose is acceptable. By far the most thrilling and chilling account is when he encountered pirates! Oh dear. The story is very short, and I've read self-identified short stories that are much longer. This feels like a draft manuscript looking for an editor. Still, it was not a waste and I'm glad I read it. But the skimpy content and the rough nature of the manuscript makes me think that this should be a freebie.
I enjoyed this book. It gave me a clear picture of the authors sailing life. I hope the author continues to share his experiences with us. thanks
